Wooden Cube Puzzle

Every piece has a place. Only one arrangement makes a cube.

Cube puzzles are the purest test of three-dimensional thinking: fold a chain of blocks into shape, or fit a handful of odd pieces into a square-edged form. Ours are handcrafted from wood in our Thai workshop and cut so the finished cube closes without gaps. They are easy to pick up, and very hard to put down.

Soma, snake and packing cubes

The best-known cube puzzle is the Soma cube, invented by the Danish polymath Piet Hein in 1933: seven pieces that combine into a three-by-three cube in 240 distinct ways, not counting rotations and reflections. The snake cube takes the opposite approach, with a single chain of 27 blocks threaded on a hidden cord that must be folded into shape in exactly the right sequence. Packing cubes ask you to fit loose pieces back into their case. All three come down to the same skill: seeing a shape in your head before your hands can make it.

Why wooden cubes feel different

A cube puzzle lives or dies by its tolerances. When the pieces are cut true, the finished cube closes with clean edges and no gaps, and you can feel the moment it comes together. Ours are made in natural wood, finished by hand and backed by our lifetime guarantee.

Which cube puzzle should I choose?

  • The easiest start: Kibble Cube. A snake cube at level 1: unravel the serpent, then fold it back into a cube.
  • A packing puzzle: Cube Puzzle. Seven pieces out of their case, then back in. Intermediate.
  • The classic snake: Serpent Cube. Twenty-seven blocks on a hidden cord. Level 3, and harder than it looks.
  • A cube with a secret: Hidden Passage. Find the hidden key before it will come apart.
  • For the competitive: Vegas Baby. Nine pieces, and every face must show the right number of dice dots.
